Now accepting applications for Spring 2025.

New options--even for established practices--now available!

Starting a veterinary practice from scratch might feel like paddling down a raging river--you'll get there, and hopefully in one piece. Thankfully new big-picture resources are now available to startups, but what about the Class III Rapids that is lab services?

I’ll be the first to admit it’s not a super sexy topic; heck, it might even not even make the top 20 priorities on your endless to-do list.

But few other areas will have a bigger impact on how you want to practice, your practice’s finances, and the care your future patients will receive.

This is too big to ignore, and too important to your team and patients to do it blind.

Your choices regarding lab services impact:

  • Selecting and obtaining the expensive pieces of equipment you’ll need to practice, from lab equipment to imaging equipment
  • The in-house and reference lab test menu you select will dictate your SOPs and how your team will practice medicine
  • The minimum annual spends you agree to may overburden your growing practice and force what workflows you pick, or write painful checks for shortfall
  • If pet owners can afford your team’s care recommendations
  • Directly influences the first 3-7 years of your practice (both clinically and financially), and likely MUCH longer

What if you didn’t have to make these decisions alone?

I’m excited to introduce an affordable, private group coaching and discussion for startups to safely wade into the waters of lab services. Over three months, learn best practices that will impact daily practice, ask questions, forecast, and learn how to build profitable lab services that can morph with your growing practice. Participants will receive pre-planning guidance and actionable feedback in private 1:1 calls with me.

What stage of startup is right for this group?

Well, it was only intended for future practice owners who are about to secure financing and want to plan, or just secured financing, BUT I've opened it up via the DIY Level to established or newly opened practices, too! This round will be primarily for startups targeting a 2025 opening date. This group will be focused more on preplanning and understanding what's possible for YOUR startup.

What's included?

You--and your startup--aren't a one-size-fits-all, so I'm giving you three levels of support in Lab Services 101 to choose from: DIY, Done-with-me, and Done-[mostly]-for-you. Payment plans for all levels are available.

DIY Level - $499 total

This level is great for established, newly open, and future practice owners, and meant for DIY lovers. Three-month program includes:

  • Two group Zoom calls/month (six total) to discuss lab-related subtopics
  • On-demand videos on best practices, from client pricing to spectrum of care and more

Done-with-me Level - $1,499 total

  • This level is best for future practice owners who want my eyes on their plans, with personalized, actionable pre-planning advice. Three-month program includes:

  • Two private, 60 minute 1:1 calls with me to discuss YOUR practice, goals, forecasting volumes and estimated spend, and best options for lab services
  • Call 1 at the beginning of Lab Services 101 to discuss prep work for your vision for your practice and goals
  • Call 2 at the end to fine-tune estimated volumes, suggestions for vendors, see if there's any additional gaps for support, and receive your Next Steps plan
  • Two group Zoom calls/month (six total) to discuss lab-related subtopics
  • On-demand videos on best practices, from client pricing to spectrum of care and more

Done-[mostly]-for-you Level - $4,999 total

  • This highly personalized level is ideal for future practice owners who want the highest level of combined pre-planning and support, including access to my feedback for 3 additional months, plus additional analysis.

  • On-demand videos on best practices, from client pricing to spectrum of care and more
    • After you receive your Next Steps plan from me at the end of Lab Services 101, you'll have access to me 2 days/week for 90 days in the Voxer messaging app. On your behalf, I'll source customized equipment proposals for your startup from up to three lab vendors and your preferred reference lab testing panels. I'll then review these proposals and pricing for you, and send you a video of my analysis, along with your Negotiating Strategy.

When does the group kick off?

This round will begin January 2025 and run through the end of March 2025.

I thought these lab contracts are confidential?

You're right, they are. The group participants will sign NDAs and will likely NOT have vendor lab proposals yet (they'll be too far ahead of opening, even if it doesn't feel like it!). Participants with proposals (or current contracts if they're an established practice) will need to notify vendors that they're participating (more details to come on this), and those proposals won't be discussed within the group, only with me in private 1:1 calls. Group discussions will focus on themes and best practices.
